Agency History
The Senka Agency was originally established in 1929 by Roy D Horton, under the name of the Roy D Horton Agency. It was during this same era that Harvey Couch had started the Harvey Couch Agency in Odessa, NY. Both gentlemen operated successful agencies for many years and were civic leaders in the Odessa community.
Richard H Smith, son-in-law of Harvey Couch took over the management of the Couch Ins Agency in 1950, changing the name to the Richard H Smith Agency and the Roy D Horton Agency. In 1953 Robert Carpenter, a local resident and Metropolitan life Manager bought the agencies, combining them to form the Carpenter Agency Inc. Bob Carpenter originally operated the agency from his large home on Church St in Odessa and later moved it to a new location on Main & Coddington. This was a new, modern facility with ample parking. In 1983 the agency was sold to John T Senka in affiliation with the Iroquois Group. The agency has grown dramatically since that time due to sales and acquisitions. The EN Angus Agency was purchased in 1992 and the James Saunders Agency in 2002. In addition, financial planning division was added, which offers life insurance, annuities, and mutual funds.
